Itinerary

DAY 1 PUNTA ARENAS - TORRES DEL PAINE
Journey by road to the Hotel las Torres located in the heart of the National Park, a five hour drive through the windswept plains of Patagonia, where you will spend the next three nights. A snack will be provided for your drive. Torres del Paine boasts the world’s most stunning array of mountains, glaciers, lakes and forest and is home to a wide variety of animal species, including guanaco (a relative of the llama), condors and flamingos. The hallmark granite horns and towers thrust abruptly skywards from the flat pampa, while lakes of turquoise, emerald, lapis lazuli, sapphire and aquamarine provide the perfect contrast. (L)(D)
DAY 2 TORRES DEL PAINE
During your stay in Patagonia, enjoy two full days at leisure for daily explorations accompanied by experienced local guides. Each day, you and your guide will discuss which of the more than 25 excursions you would like to participate in. As a special program participant, you have access to excursions not offered to other guests. Each excursion has a maximum of eight people, which ensures that you can stay flexible with your schedule. This small group will provide the ideal setting for the discovery of one of the world’s most impressive natural spectacles. Your highly qualified guides will bring life and colour to those little things that are generally overlooked. Your guide will be the key to living extraordinary moments while learning about the essence of
the region. (B)(L)(D)

DAY 4 TORRES DEL PAINE – PUNTA ARENAS
After breakfast, you will be transferred to your hotel in Punta Arenas. (B)
DAY 5 PUNTA ARENA - CRUISING THE PATAGONIA FJORDS
Cruise ship name: M/V Stella Australis. After boarding you'll have a welcome cocktail reception hosted by the Captain and his crew. The M/V StellaAustralis will then depart for one of the remotest parts of the planet. Your voyage will take you through the Strait of Magellan and Beagle Channel to explore one of the most breathtaking wilderness regions in the world: Southern Patagonia, which includes the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. (B)(D)
DAY 6 AINSWORTH BAY - TUCKER ISLETS
At dawn, you'll navigate your way through Almirantazgo Sound, arriving at Ainsworth Bay which is situated within the Alberto De Agostini National Park. It's the perfect spot from which to see the Marinelli Glacier descending from Darwin Mountain Range in the distance and to appreciate how the land returns to life after glacial retreat. Take a walk to a beaver dam in the stunning sub-polar Magellan Forest. Whether on the beach or the island, there's a good chance of sighting cannot be guaranteed due to the colony's unpredictable movements. Later, you'll sail to Tucker Islets and after lunch board the well-equipped Zodiac boats to get close to a colony of Magellan Penguins (indigenous to the Southern Hemisphere) and cormorants. Note: In September and April, this excursion is replaced by a short walk to a nearby glacier at Brookes Bay. (B)(L)(D)
DAY 7 PIA GLACIER AND ALLEY
You'll navigate along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel before disembarking at Pia Fjord. From there, you'll take a short hike to a panoramic viewpoint from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the awe-inspiring Pia Glacier whose main tongue extends from the mountaintops down to the sea. After this memorable experience, continue your voyage along the Beagle Channel through the majestic Glacier Alley. (B)(L)(D)
DAY 8 WULAIA BAY - CAPE HORN
This morning you'll cruise across Nassau Bay into the remote archipelago that includes Cape Horn National Park. If weather and sea conditions permit, you may be able to go ashore on the windswept island that harbors legendary Cape Horn (Cabo de Hornos), discovered in 1616 by a Dutch maritime expedition. In the afternoon you'll navigate the narrow Murray Channel between Navarino and Hoste islands and drop anchor at historic Wulaia Bay, one of the few places in the archipelago where the human history is just as compelling as the natural environment. This area is also renowned for its mesmerizing beauty and dramatic geography. After a visit to the Australis sponsored museum in the old radio station you will have a choice of three hikes (of increasing degrees of difficulty) that ascend the heavily wooden mountain behind the bay. On all of these you will be strolling through an enchanted Magellan forest of lengas, coigues, canelos, ferns, and other endemic fauna to reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the bay. Before leaving Wulaia Bay, drop something into the wooden mail barrel inside the museum, letters or postcards are meant to be hand delivered by future travellers, an ancient mariner tradition revived by Australis. (B)(L)(D)
DAY 9 USHUAIA
Acknowledged as the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia was founded in 1884 and was one of the original points of encounter between the Yamana and Anglican cultures. Its name derives from the Yamana word for 'penetrating bay' and it's surrounded by the last high peaks of the Andes. Today, it is one of the largest cities on Tierra del Fuego Island, with around 65,000 inhabitants. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the city and its spectacular scenery. Your tour ends when you disembark at 0830. (B)
