Day 1 - Tokyo 
This evening meet for your welcome reception and dinner. Enjoy your Special Stay hotel in Tokyo for the next three nights.

Day 2 - Tokyo 
Today, explore Yanaka with its fascinating historic buildings. Afterwards visit the Asakusa district, paying your respects at Sensoji, the city’s oldest Buddhist temple before enjoying a cruise on the Sumida River.
Head to west Tokyo. Here you have an opportunity to either visit the Imperial Shinto Meiji Shrine, before you stroll along the architectural showcase of Omotesando Walk or Relax in the picturesque Shinjuku-Gyoen Gardens before shopping in Shinjuku entertainment district. Alternatively use the time for some private shopping or relaxation.
This evening, take in the bright lights of Tokyo during your evening dinner cruise on a yakatabune, an old fashioned houseboat, on Tokyo Bay.

Day 3 - Tokyo 
Start your day admiring the spectacular views from Tokyo Skytree before visiting the National Sumo Stadium and Museum in the Ryogoku District. Later, walk through the peaceful and privately landscaped Hama-Rikyu Gardens.
Given by Taiko Masters, partake in an interactive private group demonstration and a lesson in playing the Taiko drums.
This afternoon enjoy some freetime shopping in the Shibuya District.
Choose from Sorasio, a French Fusion restaurant, or EN Restaurant, a Kaiseki fusion dining experience.

Day 4 - Tokyo > Hakone 
Immerse yourself in Japanese cuisine with the help of a local chef, as you prepare your own sushi lunch and eat it.
Venture into the countryside on your drive to Hakone and study the art works and sculptures at the Hakone Open Air Museum. Tonight, you’ll enjoy a stay in Hakone.

Day 5 - Hakone > Five Lakes 
Admire stunning scenery during your cable car ride up to Owakudani geothermal area, and the walks around the hot springs at the summit. Drive to Lake Ashinoko for a cruise, with Mt. Fuji as a backdrop. Later, discover the craftsmanship involved in creating kimonos at the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum while learning about this fascinating 300-year-old technique. Then savour the views of Mt Fuji from your lovely hotel in Five Lakes.

Day 6 - Five Lakes > Takayama 
Cross beautiful countryside on your drive to Takayama, where you’ll learn how they make wasabi at the Daio Wasabi Farm. Later, stop at the Hida Folk Village to partake in Sarubobo mascot-making. And tonight, you’ll begin a two night stay at your elegant hotel in Takayama.

Day 7 - Takayama 
Explore the surrounding villages, including the famous traditional farmhouses of Shirakawa-go. Then gain unique insights into the region’s culture and history at the various museums and arts centres located in Takayama’s old quarter.
Japanese restaurant set in a renovated former sake brewery. What a delicious dilemma.

Day 8 - Takayama > Nagoya 
Wander the Miyagawa morning markets before travelling by Shinkansen train to Nagoya. Explore the rebuilt Nagoya Castle before enjoying an overnight special stay in Nagoya.

Day 9 - Nagoya > Kyoto 
Today, you’ll get to see industrial robots perform around the Toyota factory and visit the museum before travelling by Shinkansen train to the culturally rich city of Kyoto, home to many World Heritage-listed Sites. Then, this evening, enjoy an elegant Kyomai traditional dance performance in the historic Gion District, before beginning a luxurious four night stay at your hotel in Kyoto.

Day 10 - Kyoto 
Today, visit the Kinkaku-ji or Golden Pavilion, wander the classical Zen Garden at Ryoanji Temple and marvel at the architecture of the Nijo Castle, a classic reminder of the fascinating Edo-period shogunate.
Dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, you’ll get to learn about the Japanese tea ceremony, and enjoy a Kaiseki box lunch.
Choose between Japanese cuisine at Shinensen Heihachi, or international cuisine at Fortune Garden.

Day 11 - Kyoto 
This morning, stroll along the Philosopher’s Walk, especially beautiful during blossom season, before letting yourself loose in the Nishiki Shijo Shopping District.
Tonight’s dinner will allow you to interact with a Maiko, an apprentice Geisha, who’ll host your meal presentation. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about what is involved in becoming a Geisha.

Day 12 - Kyoto > Nara 
Enjoy an excursion to Nara, where you’ll visit Todaiji Temple and see deer in Nara Park. You’ll stop at the Fushimi Inari Shrine, featured in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, before a sake tasting and visit to a sake museum.
Ryokan upgrade
Optional Traditional Ryokan Experience - For a unique insight into Japanese Culture, choose to spend tonight in a Ryokan. This traditional Japanese Inn, has tatami mat flooring with futon beds, sliding shoji paper doors, onsen hot spring baths and private facilities. Includes dinner and breakfast (additional cost).

Day 13 - Kyoto > Hiroshima 
Revel in the atmosphere of the ancient preservation districts in your own time, before boarding your Shinkansen train to Hiroshima. Tonight, sample Okonomiyaki, a delicious Japanese-style pancake, a speciality of the region. You’ll enjoy two restful nights in Hiroshima.

Day 14 - Hiroshima > Miyajima Island 
Sail by ferry to Miyajima Island to visit the Daisho-in Temple and the floating sixth century Torii Gate at the Itsukushima Shrine. Later experience an emotional visit to the Peace Park.

Day 15 - Hiroshima > Himeji > Osaka 
Today, travel by Shinkansen to Himeji and marvel at Himeji Castle before continuing to Osaka. Tonight you’ll begin a memorable two night stay at the your hotel in Osaka.

Day 16 - Osaka 
Located outside of Osaka is the timeless village of Tondabayashi Jinaimachi. Wander around this splendid historical time capsule, with houses and buildings that date back to the Edo period. Back in Osaka, visit the traditional home of the Toyotomi Clan, the Osaka Castle, before seeing how beer is made at the Asahi factory.
Tonight relive your experiences at your farewell Kaiseki dinner.

Day 17 - Osaka 
Bid a fond farewell to the ‘land of the rising sun’.
